Don't undervalue in hand work. I'm not talking about running your horse around on the lunge line or in a round pen to wear them out. I'm talking about thoughtful work focusing on proprioception, posture, communication, balance, suppleness, and straightness. We don't always have to be in the saddle. I think it can be beneficial to work the horses without weight once or twice a week. I like ground poles, hills, lateral work, backing exercises, cavalettis, just to name a few.
