I had the privilege of judging a show for Working Horse Central this past weekend. My scribe and I had an interesting conversation. Judging one level it was much more difficult for her to keep up with the scoring on some riders vs others. We discussed the difference between the riders that she had an easy time keeping up with scoring vs the ones she struggled. The difference? The riders where she had struggles were rushing through their movements. There was no concern for the balance of the horse or utilization of the arena to set he horse up to be properly balanced. Every movement was catching the horse and rider by surprise. It was like having a navigator while you are driving but the navigator doesn’t tell you to turn until you are passing the turn.
