We will return to our young horse series next week.
Our weather in Texas is making a dramatic shift. We have gone from sun everyday to cloudy. Our temps have been over 100 for months and now we are going to be in the 80's. It's been bone dry and we are predicting rain. All of this seems great. But please watch your horses for colic. The lack of radiant heat, cooler temps and damp ground make them drink less. This is actually perfect colic weather. Put some extra water on their feed. Soak there hay. Be observant. Anytime we go from weeks of sun to cloudy, it can be a colic trigger regardless of temperature.
I, however, am still grateful that the pattern is finally shifting.
